The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has asked the government to publish details of all diplomatic and service passports issued since 2025, alleging that nearly 300 unqualified individuals have obtained the travel documents.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 4, the party’s Second Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye, demanded disclosure of the beneficiaries, the positions that qualified them for the passports and the officials who approved their issuance.

He warned that alleged abuses of diplomatic and service passports could expose Ghana to security risks, including exploitation by international drug trafficking networks.

“Drug cartels do not move only through ports, they move through documents,” Mr Boakye said.

He added: “We have evidence that close to about 300 people do not qualify to hold service or diplomatic passports.”
