Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confirmed the arrest of a Syrian national in Lebanon after he allegedly attempted to smuggle approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine from Ghana.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut after arriving from Accra with the suspected drugs concealed in two pieces of luggage.
In a statement issued on November 1, 2026, NACOC said the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving Ghanaian and Lebanese drug enforcement authorities.
The operation was aimed at identifying and apprehending suspects at both ends of the drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to dismantle the wider international drug trafficking network.
NACOC disclosed that investigations were ongoing to identify and arrest the suspect’s alleged accomplices in Ghana.
The Commission said the operation demonstrated the importance of international cooperation and intelligence-sharing in tackling cross-border drug trafficking.
It further reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with Lebanon and other international partners to disrupt organised drug trafficking networks and prevent the movement of illicit substances across borders.
