Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has expressed concern about the safety of Ghanaians living abroad following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.

Reacting to the incident in a Facebook post, the rapper questioned the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and said such incidents make it difficult for Ghanaians overseas to feel safe.

Sarkodie noted that although Ghana has its own challenges, murder remains a serious issue that attracts widespread public shock and condemnation.

“I honestly don’t know what kind of upbringing shapes children to become so evil,” he said, urging Black parents abroad to instil stronger values in their children.

He also expressed sympathy to Javits’ family, particularly his parents.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Sending love, prayers and strength to the family, especially his mum and dad,” he wrote.

Javits, who reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States with his family about a year ago, was shot on October 29, 2026, while walking to school.

His father, Thomas Frimpong, alleged that his son had previously been bullied by two students, who were reportedly suspended following complaints to the school.

Three teenage suspects, aged between 16 and 18, were being sought by authorities in connection with the shooting, according to reports.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has also expressed condolences to the family and said Ghanaian officials were engaging with them and local authorities over the incident.
