New York police investigators are examining three possible motives behind the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, as they work to establish what led to the teenager’s death.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny says the investigation is considering whether the killing was linked to school bullying, a robbery that went wrong, or mistaken identity connected to possible gang violence.

The three theories are among the possibilities being pursued by investigators as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Police have yet to establish which, if any, of the suspected motives prompted the attack.

The case has drawn attention in Ghana, particularly among members of the Ghanaian community in the United States, following the death of the young student.
