The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a nationwide demonstration dubbed “Yɛgye Yɛ Sika” for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to demand the dismissal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over controversies surrounding Ghana’s South Africa evacuation exercise and diplomatic passport issuance.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 29, the party’s National Youth Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu, said the protest was intended to demand accountability over public funds and official documents.
“The public money belongs to the people, so do the official documents of the Republic,” he said, adding that citizens must demand accountability when public trust is abused.
The NPP is demanding investigations by the Attorney-General and the Office of the Special Prosecutor, publication of evacuation invoices and payment records, and an independent audit of the exercise’s total cost.
The party is also calling for the release of the passenger manifest for the reported evacuation of 1,964 Ghanaians and details of diplomatic and service passports issued since January 2025.
Protesters are expected to assemble at 6:00 a.m. at Villaggio, near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange, proceed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and end at Jubilee House.
Yakubu urged participants to remain peaceful and disciplined throughout the demonstration.
“Our strength is in our numbers and our discipline, never in disorder,” he said.
The allegations against Ablakwa have not been established as findings of wrongdoing. The protest is expected to intensify political pressure on the minister and the government to address the concerns raised by the NPP.
