A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communication team, Jennifer Queen, has cautioned the government against using the Ebola situation as a justification for the alleged misuse of public funds.
She has urged the government to prioritise transparency, accountability and effective management of the situation to ensure that taxpayers’ money is used responsibly.
“This government should not use Ebola as an excuse to misuse taxpayers’ money. They must manage the situation effectively, just as the NPP government did during the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said on UTV’s morning show.
Jennifer Queen maintained that responding to a public health threat should not become an opportunity for financial mismanagement, stressing the need for authorities to ensure that resources allocated to the response are properly accounted for.
Her comments also drew attention to the previous NPP administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which she cited as an example of how the current government should approach the Ebola situation.
The NPP member’s remarks reflect concerns about the management of public resources during health emergencies, particularly when governments may be required to undertake urgent spending to protect lives and prevent the spread of disease.
She called for an effective response that would safeguard public health while ensuring financial discipline in the use of state resources.
