The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed reports suggesting that a student has recently died at Ghana National College, clarifying that the incident being circulated occurred in 2018.

In a Facebook post, the Service said no student had died at the school recently and urged the public to disregard reports seeking to revive the incident.

GES described the circulation of the report as a disingenuous attempt to reopen the painful wounds of the bereaved family and unfairly damage the reputation of teachers, housemistresses and the school.

“No student has passed away at Ghana National College. This particular reported demise occurred in 2018,” the post said.

It further cautioned against the spread of information that could cause distress to the affected family and undermine public confidence in the school.

The clarification follows the circulation of claims about a student death at Ghana National College, which the Service says relates to an incident that occurred eight years ago.

GES has therefore called on the public to disregard the reports and avoid sharing misleading information about the school.

According to reports, a first-year student of the school, identified as Ruby Teiko, died after reportedly experiencing severe breathing difficulties during a dormitory inspection at the school’s Elsie Dadzie Hall, with her family alleging that she was made to wait for the exercise to end before receiving assistance.
