The Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area, Naa Di-Naa Donlabong III, has urged citizens of Jirapa, both at home and in the diaspora, to contribute actively to the development of their community.
He made the call at the official launch of the Anwelle Foundation at the Royal Cosy Hills Hotel in Jirapa. He stressed the need to use local knowledge, expertise and resources to tackle pressing social challenges.
Naa Di-Naa Donlabong III had earlier received a delegation led by the Foundation’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Frank Anwelle, on a courtesy call. The visit was a chance to introduce the Foundation’s vision formally to traditional authorities.
The discussions acknowledged the indispensable role of chieftaincy institutions in community development and stressed the importance of collaboration among local leaders, development partners and communities.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, also welcomed the Foundation. He urged it to keep a sustained focus on sustainable development, particularly youth empowerment and agriculture.
He said young people must be given the tools and opportunities to build productive and dignified livelihoods.
Mr Daniel N. Kolubah, Liberia’s Presidential Envoy for Trade, Investments and Special Duties, said it is important to connect people with opportunities, networks and resources so that they can unlock their potential and drive socio-economic progress. Representatives from Liberia were part of the delegation that took part in the day’s engagements.
The speakers agreed that sustainable development needs collaboration, innovation, accountability and a commitment to making sure that opportunities reach those who need them most.
The Foundation says it also used the launch to widen partnerships and mobilise broader support to scale up its work and reach more beneficiaries.
