The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Prof. Ransford Edward Van Gyampo has rejected claims surrounding his recent remarks on the issue of reparations, stating that his critique has been deliberately taken out of context and circulated for propaganda purposes.
According to the political science professor, his comments were intended to contribute to a broader intellectual discussion on the complexities surrounding the reparations debate, but sections of his remarks were selectively quoted and misrepresented in a way that distorted the original meaning.
He maintained that the narrative being pushed in some quarters does not reflect the full context of his position.
“The call for reparation would be meaningless if we do not address head-on corruption, waste, and change our negative attitude,” Prof. Gyampo said.
Gyampo explained that his intervention sought to highlight practical considerations and policy implications within the reparations discourse, rather than oppose the broader historical and moral arguments behind the call for reparative justice.
However, he noted that certain actors have deliberately framed his comments to suggest hostility toward the reparations agenda.
He therefore urged the public and media practitioners to examine his full statement and engage with the substance of the argument rather than rely on excerpts that could mislead audiences and inflame unnecessary controversy.
The academic also cautioned against the use of selective quotations to advance political or ideological agendas after praising President Mahama’s efforts, saying they are credible and likely to bring change to Ghana.
“Congratulations Mr. President, the useless jandam to throw sand in our gari can’t wash,” he added.
