Mahama calls for lasting ramadan values beyond Eid celebrations

<p>President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians, particularly the Muslim faithful, to carry forward the core values of discipline, compassion, sacrifice and unity cultivated during Ramadan into their everyday lives beyond the Eid celebrations.</p><p>He emphasized that the true essence of the holy month should not end with the festivities, but rather serve as a foundation for fostering peace, tolerance and national cohesion.</p><p>Addressing congregants at Independence Square on Friday, March 20, the president urged citizens to reflect on the spiritual lessons learned during the fasting period and translate them into actions that promote harmony, support for the vulnerable and collective national development.</p><p>“My brothers and sisters, Eid is not only a celebration, it is also a call to continuity. Let us carry forward the spirit of Ramadan in how we treat one another, in how we serve our communities, in how we uphold justice and fairness,” he said.</p><p>“Today is a day of gratitude for the strength, patience and faith that carried us through Ramadan,” he added.</p><p>The President used the occasion to reaffirm Ghana’s long-standing reputation for religious harmony, describing the nation as a shining example of peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and cultural backgrounds.</p><p>He stressed that the country’s diversity should be seen as a source of strength rather than division, noting that unity has remained a defining feature of Ghanaian society.</p><p>He pointed out that Muslims and Christians continue to celebrate each other’s holy days, participate in one another’s ceremonies, and live together as one people. According to him, this spirit of mutual respect and coexistence is a valuable national asset that must be preserved and protected for future generations.</p><p>“Let us reject anything that will divide us. Let us reject extremism and intolerance. Let us choose dialogue over discord, unity over division, and peace over conflict,” the President stated.</p>
