<p>President John Dramani Mahama has defended his administration’s economic record, insisting it borrowed less and exercised greater fiscal discipline while prioritising responsible public spending. </p><p>He said the government focused on critical investments in infrastructure, social services, and productive sectors without plunging the country into unsustainable debt, arguing that prudent financial management — not excessive borrowing — drove its development agenda. </p><p>Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, 27 February, maintained that his administration managed the economy more responsibly.</p><p>“We have borrowed less and spent more responsibly,” President Mahama said, highlighting a shift towards cutting unnecessary expenditure and ensuring value for money in the use of public resources.</p>
