22 foreigners arrested in police anti-galamsey operation

<p>The Savannah Regional Police Intelligence Department has arrested 22 Togolese nationals suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities within the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.</p><p>The arrest was carried out on January 23, when a team of police officers intercepted a Kia truck with registration number BA 223-12, driven by Abdul Majeed Yakubu.</p><p>Preliminary interrogation revealed that the occupants of the vehicle are nationals of Togo who were travelling to Tuntumba, a community identified as a hotspot for illegal mining activities, with the intention of engaging in galamsey operations.</p><p>The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for the necessary immigration and legal processes.</p><p>&nbsp;Police say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be communicated as the case progresses.</p>
