Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has revealed that steps are being taken to acquire pitch covers for the country’s major sports facilities.
Several national stadia have recently been deemed unfit to host matches, largely due to poor maintenance and the absence of protective covers for the playing surfaces.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr Ampofo Ankrah admitted the issue had been overlooked in the past but assured that plans are now underway to address it.
"We are in the process of acquiring pitch covers for our stadia. In the past, maybe it was an oversight, and that is why we don't have some at the moment, but for now, we are making arrangements to get some," he said.
He added that the move is intended to preserve the quality of pitches and prevent a repeat of the deterioration seen in previous years.
"We don't want our pitches to deteriorate, as we witnessed in the past," Ampofo Ankrah added.
The facilities set to benefit include the Accra Sports Stadium, Aliu Mahama Stadium, Essipong Sports Stadium, Baba Yara Stadium, and Cape Coast Stadium.
