The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has issued a rejoinder refuting claims circulating on social media that it replaced the culturally significant inscriptions “Woezor” (Ewe) and “Akwaba” (Akan) with the word “Oobake” on signage at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.

In a statement dated August 2025, and signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Maame  Efua Houadjeto, GTA clarified that it never authorised or approved any alteration to the existing inscriptions, which remain intact as symbols of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage.

The Authority emphasised that any change to signage at the national monument would require consultation with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the relevant agency.

The GTA urged the public and stakeholders to disregard the false information and reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the park as a site of national pride and unity.

The Authority also reminded the public to verify information through its official channels before sharing.
