Ghana has secured a far-reaching educational cooperation deal with Japan aimed at strengthening teacher training and institutional capacity across all levels of education.
Spearheaded by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the partnership brings together Ghana’s Ministry of Education, Japan’s Life is Tech organisation, and MEXT.
The collaboration features a digital education roll-out to benefit over 1.35 million secondary school students, with additional support mechanisms to enhance teaching and curriculum delivery.
Educators will receive training in digital technologies, sustainability education, and inclusive learning strategies to better serve diverse student populations.
Teacher development is one of the programme’s pillars, alongside initiatives that promote technical and vocational training, green skills for sustainable jobs, and tertiary-level research exchanges. The approach aligns with Ghana’s strategic goals under its Education Strategic Plan (ESP 2018–2030).
Minister Iddrisu expressed confidence that “structured cooperation and mutual learning” will deliver tangible improvements in both countries.
He emphasised that investing in teachers and school infrastructure remains key to Ghana’s ambition of achieving inclusive, quality education for all.
