A deadly shooting incident has thrown Denase, a community in the Afigya Kwabre North District of the Ashanti Region, into fear and uncertainty after two people were killed and three others injured in a hail of gunfire on Thursday night.
The injured victims were rushed to the Offinso Saint Patrick Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses say chaos erupted when several gunshots rang out, sending residents fleeing for cover. While the full details remain murky, speculation is rife that the attack may have been a contract killing — an allegation that has only deepened fear and suspicion in the community.
Kwabena Asamoah, the Unit Committee Chairman for the Denase Electoral Area, confirmed that the attack appeared targeted rather than a robbery. He revealed that 14 bullets were fired at a car carrying specific individuals, indicating a deliberate and violent assault.
This incident is the latest in a string of violent attacks that have plagued the area, leaving residents increasingly anxious about their safety.
As police intensify investigations to track down the perpetrators, tension is also mounting in nearby Asawase.
Just days after the assassination of the Kusasi Chief, another man was shot and killed by unknown gunmen on a motorbike. According to eyewitnesses, two assailants opened fire before speeding off, adding to the growing sense of insecurity in the region.
Authorities have yet to make any arrests in connection with either incident.
The community, meanwhile, remains on edge as calls grow louder for improved security and swift justice.
