News of the death of Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu as a result of the earthquake which hit Turkey recently has dealt a devastating blow to many Ghanaians and the world at large.
Atsu, 31, was caught up in a 7.8-magnitude quake that rocked Turkey and Syria, killing more than 46,000 people in both countries.
On the song released Wednesday (22 February), Fameye questions God on why bad things happen to good people.
The emotional song, according to Fameye is not for partying but a good time for people to reflect on life and how impactful their lives should be.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the Nothing I Get hit-maker described the death of Christian Atsu as a painful one for which he had no choice than to do a song in honour of his memory.
“At least, this song will console the family, his friends and the world for the wonderful things he did when he was alive. Indeed, the saying that ‘a good person does not last long’ is making better sense to me with the death of Christian Atsu.
“I was one person who was hopeful he would be found alive after the incident but unfortunately, he couldn’t make it,” he said.
Asked if he knew the Hatayspor forward personally, the 2022 VGMA Song Writer of the Year said he was only friends with him on Instagram but had heard and later read about his philanthropic projects.
“I never met him in person but we linked up a couple of times on Instagram. So many people died after the earthquake but why is everyone talking about Christian Atsu? I believe that is happening because he had a good heart and touched many lives.
“To family, close friends and associates, I wish them all the best. They should take heart during this trying times. It is not easy to lose a loved one,” he stated.
Atsu who played for Hatayspor before his tragic death was one of the star players from the Chelsea academy before heading to Turkey.
Atsu had scored for Hatayspor Kulubu, their only goal in that game, the day before the disaster struck.
The 31-year-old was residing in an apartment in the Hatay city which suffered huge damages during the quake.
Atsu played 65 times for Ghana, scoring nine goals and was a member of the Black Star squad who featured at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Atsu’s mortal remains was flown into the country by Turkish airline on Sunday, February 19. The one week observation has been scheduled for Saturday, 4 March.
