Gifty Oware-Mensah, a former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority and a current member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has been detained by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) in connection with an ongoing payroll fraud investigation within the National Service Authority(NSA).

She was reportedly arrested on Friday, March 7, 2025, and has since been denied bail despite multiple attempts to secure her release.

Initial reports suggest that former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary, John Boadu, had signed for her bail. However, she was later moved from the NIB premises, and her current whereabouts remain unknown.

Earlier this week, Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin confirmed that Oware-Mensah had been prepared to face the NIB regarding her alleged involvement in the NSA ghost-name scandal.

Her arrest follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama during his first State of the Nation Address, in which he urged authorities to take action against individuals implicated in the NSA fraud case.

Reports indicate that some suspects have fled the country following the investigative exposé by The Fourth Estate.

In response, the President has ordered the freezing of their assets pending further investigations.

Oware-Mensah, who owns Berry Ladies FC, had only recently returned to Ghana on Tuesday, March 5, 2025, after a vacation abroad after the 2024 elections.

Her detention comes amid the recent arrest of former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA, Ohene Djan, who was reportedly apprehended in a dramatic raid at his residence. Authorities are yet to release further details as investigations continue.
