ABCNews can authoritatively confirm that contrary to what team Alan has put out, the former Trade and Industry Minister was indeed the Chairman of the Economic Management Committee of President Akufo-Addo’s Cabinet.

The Economic Committee of Cabinet in 2022 had the Minister for Trade and Industry, as Chairperson whilst the Minister for Finance was the Alternate Chairperson.

Other members of the Economic Committee were the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Minister for Energy, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations.

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, Public Enterprises Minister, Senior Presidential Advisor and Presidential Advisor on the Economy make up the list.

It could be recalled that, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor-Dompreh, in an interview with Akwasi Nsiah on Adom TV’s Badwam show, emphasized that claims that Bawumia had led the economy astray as the leader of the Economic Committee were false.

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Legislator stated that Cabinet’s Economic Committee was rather headed by the Trade and Industry Minister, John Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng.

In a release signed by Richard Nyamah, an Alan Kyeremateng campaign deputy communications director denied the existence of such a committee on President Akufo-Addo’s Cabinet, let alone having Alan Kyeremateng as its chairperson.

ABCNews is in possession of the document that clearly and unambiguously states that Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng was indeed the Chairperson of the Cabinet Committee of Akufo-Addo.

It is, however, important that the general public be made to understand the workings of the Economic Management Team which is headed by the Vice President in relation to Cabinet.

All memoranda to Cabinet must be sponsored by a ministry and ministries seek Cabinet Committee approval before presenting them to Cabinet.

On the floor of Cabinet, it is the Committee chairmen just like parliamentary committees who present the reports of the committees.

The Economic Management Team is only an adhoc advisory committee set up by the President. No minister is bound to send his policy to the EMT for approval. The EMT reports are not presented to Cabinet.

Decisions taken at EMT for onward submission to Cabinet must still go through Cabinet sub-committees through the respective ministries.
