The Ashanti NPP Parliamentary Caucus has responded to a publication claiming that Effiduase-Asokore Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie lost a ‘secret Ashanti caucus’ election to Asante-Akim MP, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi.
A statement signed by the caucus secretary Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq. said that the claims are ‘false’ and do not “not reflect the truth of the matter.”
The statement further said Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie did not show interest in the election to lead the caucus and was absent during the said election.
"It is entirely false to suggest that Hon. Nana Ayew Afriyie was present at the election, campaigned, or solicited votes on the basis of his affiliation with Dr. Bawumia. The reality is that he was not in attendance at the said meeting or election."
"More importantly, he had formally communicated to the Interim Management Committee ahead of the event that he was not interested in contesting for any leadership position.
“Any claims to the contrary are a complete fabrication aimed at misleading the public.” The statement said
Adding that, “The Ashanti Caucus remains resolute in upholding the principles of democracy, fairness, and transparency in all our internal processes. We reject any attempt to distort the facts and create unnecessary controversy.”
“We urge the public, party supporters, and all well-meaning stakeholders to disregard these misleading reports, as they do not reflect the truth of the matter.”
