The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North Constituency, Sammi Awuku, has reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling all promises made to his constituents, despite the New Patriotic Party, losing the 2024 elections.

As part of his efforts to support local communities, Mr. Awuku has been facilitating a monthly trade initiative by providing free transportation for farmers to bring their produce from villages to the Ofie Market Square at the Amanokrom Durbar grounds.

Additionally, he has partnered with rural banks to offer soft loans to farmers and market women to help them expand their businesses.

In an interview with the media after the successful launch of the initiative, Mr. Awuku pledged to personally cover 25 percent of the 30 percent interest on the soft loans provided to the farmers and traders.

Looking ahead, Mr. Awuku plans to launch a Teacher’s and Nurse’s Fund by mid-year, following productive discussions with the Education and Health Directorates. He is optimistic that this fund, which will provide seed capital for teachers and nurses, will encourage them to accept postings and remain in remote areas within the Constituency, thereby improving access to education and healthcare services.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the launch of Ofie Market at Amanokrom, Sammy Awuku pledged not to touch a penny of his MP’s common fund but to use it judiciously to help lift them from the shackles of poverty into prosperity.

“I told them that by the middle of the year, we will set up this fund so that they will also be able to assess some of the credit. That one is a seed fund given to the teachers and the health professionals.

“As an MP I have made a firm commitment that anything meant for the constituency as part of their common fund, I will not take a cedi for what is meant for them. I will also help them from the shackles of poverty to prosperity,” he stated.
