A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament of Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, Gifty Klenam has defected to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A viral video showed Gifty beaming with smiles, while proudly displaying her membership card of the NDC.
"This is my new family card, NDC ey3 zu." Gifty Klenam said in the video.
Gifty Klenam, who previously served as an MP on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), won the Lower West Akim seat twice, in 2008 and 2012.
However, she faced a setback in 2016 when she lost her bid in the NPP's parliamentary primaries.
Throughout the 2024 general election campaign season, Klenam openly supported Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP member who left the party after losing the flagbearer contest, to subsequently form the Movement for Change.
Before becoming an MP, Gifty worked as an industrialist, farmer and CEO of Sunharvest Company Limited.
