President Mahama will appoint 60 ministers, keeping his campaign promise, by not appointing deputy ministers for some ministries.

He has already sworn in six ministers and nominated 36 more, including three ministers of state for new responsibilities.

Mahama also announced a reduction in the number of government ministries from 29 to 23 as part of an administrative restructuring initiative.

"As the ministers are approved by Parliament, and as they are sworn in, I'll proceed to name deputy ministers for some of the ministries, which will bring the total of the ministers to 60, as I promised the people of Ghana, to make this government, Ghana's leanest, and I believe the most efficient government ever in history," President Mahama said during the swearing-in six ministers.

Speaking after the swearing-in of six newly appointed ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, the President reiterated sentiments from his inaugural address, stressing that his administration has a duty to meet the high expectations of the citizens who entrusted them with power.

“Our conduct must reflect humility and an unwavering respect for the people we serve,” President Mahama stated.

“This government will not tolerate arrogance or disrespect toward Ghanaians, who have placed their trust in us to deliver.”

The appointees, part of the first batch of ministerial nominees approved by Parliament, include:

  1. Dr Cassiel Ato Forson as Minister for Finance
  2. Dr Dominic Ayine as Attorney General
  3. John Jinapor as Minister for Energy and Green Transition
  4. Haruna Iddrisu as Minister for Education
  5. Eric Opoku as Minister for Food and Agriculture
  6. Governs Kwame Agbodza as Minister for Roads and Highways
