Member of Parliament for North Dayi Constituency, has shared some of her challenges in seeking re-election, highlighting the deliberate sabotage she suffered from the District Chief Executive (DCE) of her district.
Joycelyn Tetteh, emphasised most NDC MPs were sabotaged by NPP MMDCEs, especially in her constituency.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, she alleged that government fertilizers meant for farmers were hoarded in the DCE's house and given out for vote-buying purposes. Madam Tetteh also revealed that projects initiated by her were stalled, highlighting that the MCE would skip office just to avoid signing a cheque for her to complete the project.
"The NPP didn't have a message during the campaign. They only encouraged voters to come for fertilizers to vote for them. I've gravely suffered in opposition as an NDC MP", stressed Madam Tetteh.
As to why the MCE behaved like that, she argued that in our adversarial politics, as done in Ghana, the DCE contested against her in the main elections in 2020 and lost. "In 2024, the DCE had to make things very difficult for me to secure a win, which didn't work. But I won with hard work", she stated, underscoring the enormity of the difficulties she had to endure just to secure the seat for her party.
As to the rationale for the MCE's actions, the North Dayi MP hinted that although the NPP government was loathed by her constituents due to its abysmal performance, the MCE was also scared of empowering her with the District Assembly Common Fund to complete her projects. "I had to rely on NGOs to support my vision. Apart from that, it was very terrible. The MCE only signed for items bought, which were three years old or older, and had no significant bearing on the elections", she recounted.
According to her, though she officially reported the incident to the Local Government and Regional Minister, nothing worthwhile happened. "It's like a cabal of people seeking to frustrate your efforts. We're in government and I'm more than willing to contribute my quota in serving in any capacity the president deems fit," she concluded.
