Mohammed Abdul-Salam has been appointed as the acting CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) following Sammi Awuku’s resignation.
Abdul-Salam, a Northern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will serve in an interim capacity until the NLA Board advises otherwise.
In an official communication from Jubilee House signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Abdul-Salam was formally congratulated and wished success in his new role.
This development follows the resignation of Sammi Awuku, whose tenure at the NLA began under the administration of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Awuku submitted his resignation letter on January 13, 2025, citing his recent election as Member of Parliament for Akuapem North in the Eastern Region as the reason for stepping down.
Awuku, who previously served as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), expressed his commitment to dedicating more time to his parliamentary duties and serving the people of Akuapem North.
The transition comes at a pivotal moment for the NLA, with stakeholders anticipating Abdul-Salam’s leadership to build upon existing reforms and navigate the challenges of the lottery sector in Ghana.
