Liverpool legend Michael Owen believes that Antoine Semenyo has the potential to replace Mohamed Salah should the Egyptian forward leave Anfield.

Owen's comments came after Semenyo scored in AFC Bournemouth's 2-2 draw with Chelsea, further highlighting his impressive form this season. The former Liverpool striker sees Semenyo as a strong candidate to bolster Liverpool’s attack if Salah departs.

"Semenyo is a brilliant player," he said on Premier League Productions.

"He scores goals and we don't know if Mohamed Salah will leave or stay but if he leaves, Semenyo should be his replacement at Liverpool," he added.

Salah’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs starting in January, as Liverpool has yet to offer him a new deal.

Semenyo, who has already netted seven goals this season, will look to continue his fine form when Bournemouth face Newcastle United at St. James’ Park this weekend.
