Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama has paid a courtesy call to his friend and brother, William Ruto, the president of Kenya to thank him for his support over the years and subsequently his re-election to becoming Ghana’s next president.
Mr Mahama took the opportunity to invite the president of Kenyan to attend his inauguration and swearing-in as the next president on January 7, 2025.
The president-elect indicated that his visit was a great opportunity for him to discuss with Mr William Ruto the regional integration efforts, continental security and how the two countries, Ghana and Kenya can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the Afcfta.
Mr Mahama noted that as a former chair of the African Union (AU) high-level committee on trade, he remains committed to expanding trade among countries under AEGIS of the Afcfta and further strengthening the relations between Ghana and Kenya.
Kenya's president, Mr William Ruto, who hosted Ghana’s President-elect John Dramani Mahama pleased with the visit of his friend and brother, agreed to attend his swearing-in in Accra next month and also thanked Mr Mahama for declaring his support for Hon Raila Odinga African Union Commission chairperson candidature.
William Ruto on his part said he will enhance relations with Ghana to include more sectors in trade and investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, oil and gas. He noted this would broaden opportunities for the people of the two countries and ensure shared prosperity.
The two were joined by Mr Raila Odinga, Kilgoris in Narok County.
