A member of the Black Stars' management committee, Akwesi Agyeman has urged for patience with head coach Otto Addo, warning that dismissing him could harm Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes for 2026.
Agyeman’s plea follows Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 21 years.
With one match left in the qualifiers, the Black Stars have earned just three points and are currently in 4th place in Group F.
Despite public outcry and calls for Addo’s removal, Agyeman stresses that making a change now could jeopardize the team’s future.
“He’s been brought back to build something for the long term. If you consider the long-term vision, consistency is essential," Agyeman told Hitz FM.
"Football is about results, yes, but right now, in just a few months, we have two critical games against Chad, home and away, to keep our World Cup hopes alive. I don’t think this is the right time for a change,” he argued.
Ghana’s World Cup qualification campaign will resume with matches against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
