The Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) has trained about 300 hairdressers and beauticians in basic ICT skills in the Ablekuma West Constituency.
The training initiative was aimed at training local hairdressers and beauticians, equipping them with essential techniques and knowledge to thrive in the ICT competitive industry.
The GIFEC-led training for the Ghana Hairdressers & Beauticians Association (GHABA) is in tandem with the government's digitalisation agenda, which, among other things, seeks to empower citizens in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy through the provision of requisite digital skills.
The artisans' training not limited to age, social or educational background were provided with hands-on digital entrepreneurship skills to improve their economic well-being.
It was also to enhance their digital capabilities and to aid them transform their entrepreneurial skills for them to thrive in a digital age.
The training, conducted by knowledgeable instructors from GIFEC, covered a range of topics, including social media marketing, online customer service, and using digital tools to streamline operations.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities that allowed them to practice creating online profiles, posting engaging content, and utilizing software for appointment scheduling. The atmosphere was electric as everyone eagerly shared ideas and insights.
One of the beneficiaries, Abena Amoah expressed satisfaction over the training and said, “I have capitalised on the skills acquired through this rare opportunity, to enhance my businesses, employability and my lives in general in order to enjoy the economic benefits of the use of ICT.”
She added, “This ICT training has been of essence to me a lot. It has shaped my ideas, education, and a whole lot. The benefits I have had in this space is unmatched and we’re grateful to GIFEC. More of this training should be organized to get more brains established in ICT field for the future”.
Another trainee, Akosua also said, "I’ve always wanted to improve my skills, but I never had the opportunity. This training is a chance for me to learn new techniques and expand my business."
“This is just the beginning. I’m going to take what I’ve learnt and make my salon the best in Dansoman. I will make more fortune out of it, and see to it that, others also benefit from what I have benefited today. I will make sure this unique activity and education gained today, will be of highest interest and benefit to many. Thank you GIFEC.”
She further explained that, she is now equipped to send emails, work with Microsoft Excel and can even advertise her small business on social media.
