The High Court in Cape Coast has suspended an injunction against the University of Cape Coast Vice Chancellor, Prof.Johnson Nyarko Boampong, regarding the renewal of his tenure of office.
This comes after the High Court granted an injunction filed by John Memeveo, a resident of Millenium City at Kasoa in the Central Region against him.
Memeveo is contesting the University’s decision to extend Prof. Nyarko-Boampong’s tenure arguing that the extension contradicts the 1992 Constitution.
The Vice-Chancellor through his lawyers thus challenged the same at the High Court in Cape Coast.
In its ruling, the court presided over by Justice John-Mark Nuku Alifo ordered that Professor Nyarko Boampong continue to perform his functions and duties as Vice Chancellor per his renewed appointment commencing from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2026, until otherwise determined in the pending suit.
Also, the court prohibited the University’s Council from taking any decision that would suspend, reverse, or set aside the appointment of Prof Boampong.
Additionally, it ordered that the University desist from interfering with the renewal of the appointment until the final determination of his suit.
