News outlet Citi FM has reported that over 40 illegal miners have escaped arrest after swimming across the Birim River after a task force chase.
According to the report, 20 chanfans polluting the river in Atewa West were set on fire.
One Togolese national was arrested, and mining equipment was seized.
However, the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners has urged the public to help locate illegal miners in the fight against galamsey operators.
