As the December 7 general elections approach, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has intensified his campaign in the Greater Accra region, touring one of the key constituencies in Accra which is Odododiodio to interact with traders at Makola and Okaishie Market and further outline NPP’s vision for the country.
His message, focused on tax reliefs, a simplified flat tax regime, and improved power supply, resonates with key voting blocs, tiny business owners and women-led enterprises, in the bustling metropolis.
His visits to the Okaishie and Makola markets yesterday allowed the running mate of the NPP to engage with traders who occupy germane spots in the plans of the next NPP administration. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's bold vision to implement wide-ranging tax reforms out of which comes the flat tax system is such welcoming news to them.
He further highlighted Dr Bawumia's vision to ensure exchange rate stability for business planning and price stability. These traders deeply appreciate government efforts and records in the Free Senior High School policy, restoration of Nursing and Teacher Training allowances, as well as power stability at the lowest increase in tariffs for businesses, among others, as ways of reducing their burdens.
Key points of his campaign include Tax Reliefs: Proposing tax reliefs to ease the financial burden on citizens and businesses, a fund for SMEs and Women-Led Businesses: Establishing a dedicated fund to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and businesses led by women. During a rally at the Okaishie and Makola Market in the Odododiodio Constituency, a key stop on his Greater Accra regional campaign tour, Napo announced plans by the next NPP government to establish a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund.
The fund, among others, aims to deepen access to credit, a critical issue for small businesses, particularly those led by women, he told the enthusiastic crowd of party supporters and market traders. He emphasized that this move is part of a broader strategy to empower women economically, thereby driving national development. In his appeal to both traders and consumers, Napo also outlined NPP’s vision for a more favourable tax regime.
Some party officials, who are part of the campaign delegation, noted that these proposals are indicative of Dr. Bawumia’s focus on pragmatic economic policies designed to stimulate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and enhance the livelihoods of everyday Ghanaians.

Kennedy Agyepong noted is about time Ghanaians are empowered to do their business over foreigners hence promised that when the NPP is voted for, he will personally create a market to promote Ghana-made policy. He noted that by prioritizing made-in-Ghana goods and services, “We will not only support local businesses but also create jobs and retain wealth within the economy.”
