The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), under the leadership of Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is making some strong significant progress and strides, and it appears the “voices that matter” have kept mute.
The Authority has recently released an amount of GHC151 million to healthcare providers across the country, and this is even a supplementary disbursement of earlier disbursements which also didn’t catch attention public attention.
It is however surprising that the opposition, particularly the NDC and the minority caucus in parliament, have refused to speak of this recent development, especially when some months back they were accusing and bashing the government of collapsing the scheme.
At least I was expecting them to be honest and sincere enough to acknowledge the fact that the scheme is doing extremely well to live up to its responsibilities which includes, committing to the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery in the country.
Well-meaning Ghanaians and professionals like some of us will not look on for the politicians to politicise such important issues. It is therefore incumbent on us to commend when necessary, and also condemn when need be. It is on this basis that I commend the current leadership of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), specifically, its CEO, Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, for this good job.
