The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied claims that misconduct was a reason for the release of former soldier Richard Jakpa from service.
This denial follows the circulation of a supposed letter from the Military High Command, which alleged that Mr. Jakpa, the third accused in an ongoing trial, was dismissed from the GAF due to persistent offenses and acts of misconduct.
The matter arose at an Accra High Court when the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, testified following Mr. Jakpa's subpoena.
During the trial, lawyers for the third accused questioned the military chief about whether misconduct was a basis for Jakpa's dismissal.
In response, Lieutenant General Oppong-Peprah denied that misconduct was a reason for Jakpa's release.
However, a letter presented and tendered into evidence by the Attorney General listed misconduct as a reason for Mr. Jakpa's dismissal from the military.
