Black Stars midfielder Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has been forced to return to Germany after picking an injury during pre-season with Freiburg in Austria.
The midfielder who was making progress from an injury that had kept him out for close to 18 months experienced pains in his left knee which forced the medics to send him home for further tests.
He is expected to undergo surgery to determine the extent of his latest injury, which has been recurring for the past year.
Freiburg confirmed the setback on their official social media pages, wishing the Ghana international a quick return.
"Kofi Kyereh has left the TL in Schruns. After the increased strain, problems with the injured knee have recurred. A surgical procedure should provide information on how further treatment and strain control can be continued in a targeted manner," wrote the club.
The attacking midfielder suffered his first major injury in 2023 after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament and has since not recovered.
