Ghanaians are set to benefit from a groundbreaking development in the transport sector as Tap n' Go introduces its much-anticipated ride-hailing feature. This local initiative, driven by a public-private partnership, aims to provide drivers with a more lucrative and sustainable earning model. Set to launch on August 12, 2024, by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the new feature promises to revolutionize daily earnings for drivers, particularly in Accra and Kumasi.
This launch follows a successful pilot that began on December 16, 2023, during which the technical team implemented key modifications based on driver feedback. The enhanced system reflects a commitment to creating a user-friendly and profitable platform for local drivers.
Simon Martey, Business Development Manager for Tap n’ Go, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “The decision to set the driver commission at 12% came after extensive consultations with drivers, including those from the GPRTU and private sectors. We believe this will significantly boost their earnings and improve their quality of life.”
The new ride-hailing feature not only reduces the commission rate for drivers but also introduces a host of benefits. Drivers can expect to earn up to GHC6,000, with top performers making more than GHC18,000. Additionally, 1% of the commission will be allocated to driver SSNIT or welfare plans, ensuring a secure retirement. Loyalty rewards and other incentives further sweeten the deal, encouraging more drivers to join and stay with Tap n’ Go.
Tap n' Go's initiative aligns with the government's agenda to create a local ride-hailing app tailored to the needs of Ghanaian drivers. This project underscores a commitment to listening to local drivers' concerns, particularly regarding the high rates charged by foreign ride-share companies.
With the launch just around the corner, Tap n' Go is poised to make a significant impact on the transportation landscape in Ghana. The app’s innovative features and driver-focused approach are expected to attract a substantial number of new drivers, enhancing the overall efficiency and appeal of Ghana's transport sector.
