Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama says his party members must stay awake during the December 7 general election.

According to him, the party must be watchdogs to protect their ballots in their quest to win the upcoming election.

Mr Mahama, however, urged all party executives not to sleep for 72 hours during the elections.

"None of us is going to sleep on 7th December," he said, adding "I wish to assure Ghanaians that we are going to protect your ballot."

Former President Mahama spoke at a mini rally after he organised a health walk in Accra on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

He also appealed to all capable party members to be trained in electoral procedures so that they could serve as polling agents for the party at the various polling stations.

"We have to train you. No matter how intelligent you are, we have to train you in electoral matters," he said, adding that "training them will help to police the ballots and protect the party's votes."

Mr Mahama said after the party's members have been trained, they will be deployed to the polling stations to monitor the process so that they will be able to "protect the ballots for us."
