The Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Damapare has assured the family of 24-year-old Loise Abena Koranteng, who was found dead in a pool at the CrisLord Palace Hotel in Takoradi an expedited investigation into the matter.
Loise Abena Koranteng reportedly checked into the CrisLord Palace Hotel on June 7, 2024, with her boss and another company staff member but was found dead in the hotel’s pool the following morning.
Reports indicate that the hotel’s CCTV cameras were not functioning during the week of the incident. The Western Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Henry Yeleduor has confirmed that his office is collaborating with the police to investigate the unexplained matter.
The Ghana Police Service, in a statement on Thursday, July 11 explained that the IGP, Dampare on Wednesday, July 10 called on the family to reassure them of a thorough probe into the matter.
According to them, an autopsy report, from a pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital revealed the cause of death as asphyxia, severe pulmonary edema, and drowning in a pool.
The police have assured the family of updating them on any developments in the case as they continue to investigate the matter.
POLICE STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF A 24-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AT A HOTEL IN TAKORADI
On 8th June 2024, the Ghana Police Service received a complaint to the effect that Lois Abena Korateng, a 24-year-old woman had been found unconscious in a swimming pool at a hotel at Takoradi in the Western region and was taken to the hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.
On the same day, Police commenced an investigation into the incident. A police team visited the scene and also visited the hospital and inspected the body but no marks of assault were found on her.
The body was later deposited at the morgue where an autopsy was conducted on 8th June 2024 in the presence of the deceased family by a Pathologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who gave the verbal cause of death as (i) ASPHYXIA (ii)
