It was a shocking scene last night in the Odododiodioo Constituency, as leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Mettle Otoo, popularly known as Okposon, was viciously attacked by disqualified parliamentary candidate Michael Nii Yarboi Annan.

The incident took place directly opposite the Jamestown Police Station, where Jonathan was peacefully spending time. Eyewitnesses reported that Annan launched a brutal assault on Jonathan, beating him and even throwing a wooden bench at him.

The reason for the attack is believed to be Annan's belief that Jonathan had insulted him, although the exact details of the alleged insult are unknown. It has since come to light that Annan was disqualified from the parliamentary race due to fraudulent activity, including forging an NDC party card, unlawfully entering his details into the NDC registry, and providing false information about his date of joining the party.

Annan, who had previously contested as a parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the NPP in 2019, took matters into his own hands and resorted to violence against Jonathan. The NDC party hierarchy in the Constituency, including the sitting Member of Parliament, Hon. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, have yet to comment on the incident.

The matter has been reported to the police, who are currently conducting investigations into the attack. Meanwhile, Jonathan Mettle Otoo is said to be recovering from his injuries and is receiving support from his fellow party members and well-wishers.

This incident has raised concerns about the safety of political figures in the area and the need for peaceful and respectful discourse in political campaigns, particularly in an election year.
