The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has stepped in to help facilitate the clearance of critical construction materials from the Tema Harbour for the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project.

His aid comes after the chairman of the project, Sammy Adu Boakye shared his frustration on social media seeking an import duty waiver from the government.

Dr Bawumia is said to have responded swiftly by contributing GH¢1 million towards clearing the duties for the project.

Sammy Adu Boakye in a statement thanked the Vice President for this support and others who have aided a smooth port process of the construction materials.

Owing to my recent unilateral Facebook comments as well as a media interview regarding the delays in getting import duty waivers for the Heal Komfo Anokye Project - a great initiative by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II which I have the privilege to contribute to as project chairman, I unfortunately and with too much passion shared my views on the need to expedite the waivers as demurrage charges had started to accumulate.

The office of the Vice President has thankfully responded with alacrity with the assurance of taking up the matter and getting it resolved favourably.

The immediate past Majority Leader in Parliament has also been very proactive in seeking to assist the Heal Komfo Anokye project to receive the necessary waivers so that contributions and donations can be applied directly to obtaining quality materials for the sake of this project which has enormous public benefits.

I am very grateful for the swift intervention of His Excellency's office and the efforts of Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu. Their untiring efforts wil e n a b l e us use project funds judiciously and help us to attain our goal of renovating the 70-year-old blocks at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Sincerely,

Sammy Adu Boakye
Chairman
Heal Komto Anokye Project Team (HeKAP)
