The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has joined the International Community's concern about Ghana's parliament passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
According to them, they are closely monitoring the outcome of the bill which is yet to be assented to by President Nana Addo Danka Akufo-Addo.
The bill is finally passed to be law will criminalizes LGBTQ+ activities, as well as their promotion, advocacy, and funding.
Offenders could face a jail term ranging from 6 months to 3 years, while those promoting and sponsoring the act could face a jail term between 3 to 5 years.
However, the International Community has described the bill as “harsh” on human rights - and a “risk” to Ghana's economy.
In a statement released by the IMF and shared with Bloomberg, it was stated, “Diversity and inclusion are values that the IMF embraces. Our internal policies prohibit discrimination based on personal characteristics, including but not limited to gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation. Like institutions, diverse and inclusive economies flourish."
