Al Ahly, the reigning African champions, showcased their title-defending prowess with an impressive 3-0 victory against Ghanaian champions Medeama at WE Al-Ahly Stadium on Saturday in the CAF Champions League.

Despite a resilient defensive effort from Medeama in the first half, Al Ahly broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneim netted a header from inside the box, capitalizing on Emam Ashour's exceptional setup.

Hussien El-Shahat further extended Al Ahly's advantage in the 75th minute with a superb finish from close range. Initially, Kahraba's attempt was met with an outstanding save from Medeama goalie Felix Kyei, but El-Shahat swiftly followed up to double the hosts' lead.

Substitute Salah Mohsen sealed the triumph just before full-time, heading in a precise assist from talented midfielder Mohamed 'Afsha' Magdi from the right wing.

Following this commanding performance, Al Ahly now leads Group D with three points, sharing the top spot with Algeria's Chabab Belouizdad, who secured a 3-0 win against Young Africans of Tanzania on Friday.

This victory positions Al Ahly at the top of the group, matching points and goals with Algerian champions CR Belouizdad. However, both Medeama and Young Africans find themselves without points after the opening matchday, looking for redemption in the upcoming fixtures on matchday two. Medeama is set to host CR Belouizdad at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, while Young Africans face the formidable task of hosting Al Ahly. The competition intensifies as these teams seek to secure their positions in the CAF Champions League.
