NPP Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh has issued a caustic warning to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako alias Chairman Wontumi to desist from verbally abusing Alan Kyerematen following the latter's exit from the party.
Alan Kyerematen has quit the New Patriotic Party to "contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana as an independent presidential candidate".
He cited various reasons for his decision, paramount among them is the New Patriotic Party has proven his "services and contributions to the Party are not appreciated, and that my continuous stay in the Party will create further tension and division, which is an exact replay of circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the Party in 2008".
He also accused the NPP of neglecting its principles saying "I joined the New Patriotic Party at the very beginning of its establishment as a Founding Member, believing in its core values and the long-standing traditions of its antecedents, predicated on fairness, equity, probity, accountability, and transparency" but "the NPP as it exists now has very little resemblance to the Party that I joined in 1992 and helped to nurture. The Party has been hijacked by a selected group of Party leaders and elders, government appointees, 'behind the curtain power brokers”.
He said these at a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 25.
Order To Remove Alan's Posters
Chairman Wontumi, following Alan's announcement, has been sharing his thoughts on the latter's resignation.
First, he ordered the party members and supporters in his Region to immediately remove anything that bears the identity of Alan Kyerematen from their offices.
“Once he has forfeited his membership, it is just right and fair that these items are removed from our offices,” Chairman Wontumi said in a statement.
“In view of Hon. Alan Kyerematen’s resignation from the party, all his posters, banners, flyers and paraphernalia at our party offices in all the constituencies must be removed with immediate effect,” he stated in a memo.
He also rebuked Alan saying he is ungrateful to the party after it's made him a political colossus.
Chairman Wontumi listed Alan's appointment as Ambassador to the US, Trade Minister under John Agyekum Kufuor government and subsequently holding the same portfolio under the current government till his resignation in January 2023.
"…the party gave you a position for you to be able to take care of your wife and children. Now, all of you understand English even better than me. Your wife speaks better English than me now; she speaks it more fluently than Wontumi", he commented.
You're Warned!
The Ashanti Regional Chairman's utterances about Alan has sparked agitations with Hon. Sylvester Tetteh warning him to redirect his focus from the former Trade Minister and presidential aspirant.
"When you are a Chairman in the Ashanti Region, your task is not as big as the one in North-East or Volta Region but the danger is that when our opponent keeps increasing to the extent that the NDC is making almost 700000 votes in the Ashanti Region, it means you are losing your grip in the Region. Notwithstanding the fact that you are winning the parliamentary seat but the popular vote, we are losing them.
"If I were him, I would be rather careful because more of Alan's family members are based in the Ashanti Region, so you ridiculing Alan will either push his family members away from the party or decide to stay in the party. If they leave, it will go against you when NDC is making almost 700000 votes in your Region which is supposed to be a Region that cancel ten Regions. So, you should be worried because Ashanti Region is now the world bank of the NDC more than the Volta Region", he cautioned the Regional Chairman on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo".
"Where will your ridiculing him and making mockery of him end you?", he queried.
