The New Patriotic Party will on November 4, 2023 hold its presidential congress to elect a flagbearer for the party.

Ahead of the congress in November will be a Special Delegates Congress which will be held in August to reduce the number of the candidates vying for the flagbearer position from ten to five.

The ten candidates comprise Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Trade Minister; Alan Kyerematen, Assin Central MP; Kennedy Agyapong, former Minister for Agriculture; Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Energy Minister; Boakye Agyarko, former Railways and Development Minister; Joe Ghartey, former NPP General Secretary; Kwabena Agyepong among others.

The NPP's main congress will be held within the constituencies and some critics believe this will be far costly than if the party should hold the congress at one place.

But to former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Fred Opare Ansah, the party has made the right call.

He explained that the number of delegates expected to participate in the election is exceedingly huge that it will be difficult for the NPP to host all of them at a go.

He revealed that the delegates count up to over 200000, stressing "there is not any stadium in Ghana that can hold that number of people...So, it's obvious that it will have to remain constituency-based".

Hon. Opare Ansah made this known on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show.
