National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha has empathized with the members and supporters of the party following the party's defeat at the Assin North by-election on Tuesday, June 27.

The New Patriotic Party's candidate, Charles Opoku failed to win the by-election after polling 12630 votes representing 42.15% as against the opposition National Democratic Congress' candidate, James Gyakye Quayson who garnered 17245 of the total valid votes representing 57.56% to emerge victor.

Discussing the aftermath of the by-election on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo", Salam Mustapha noted that the party members and supporters are disappointed and very pained about the outcome of the election.

He shared the concerns of the rank and file of the NPP stating "with a very sincere heart, I want to say that the results that our supporters wanted from us didn't come as expected and that the party faithfuls are pained and rightfully so and justifiably so that they feel pained and disappointed that we couldn't clinch victory in the just-ended by-election. We all went with the belief that we are going to win. I was confident that we would take the seat".

"I understand the pains, disappointment and anger of the party members and supporters. I want to plead with them that we feel more pained by it because I have lost my bragging right", he stressed.

He laid the blame on the party's leadership saying "if we don't take the fall for it, who will?"

Salam Mustapha pleaded with the members and supporters not to be dismayed but to cooperate with the leaders and forge ahead to win the 2024 elections.
