IGP visits Despite media and Citi TV/FM

As part of efforts of the Police Administration to deepen engagement with its stakeholders, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare today paid a feedback-driven working visit to the offices of Citi TV and Despite media at Tesano and Abeka Junction in Accra.

The IGP who was accompanied by some members of the Police Management Board and the Accra Regional Police Commander interacted with the management of both media houses led by Mr. Samuel Atta Mensah for the Citi side and Dr. Fadda Dickson for Despite Media and requested for feedback on the performance of the Police Service and the general state of security, law and order in the country.

On their part, the officials of the two media houses, during their respective sessions expressed their gratitude to the IGP and the Ghana Police Service for keeping the peace of the country. They commended the police for the enhanced police visibility programme, various road safety interventions and also acknowledged the significant reduction in incidents of robbery across the country.

They however called on the Police to have more frequent engagements with the media and create better avenues for information sharing. Another issue raised was the need for   improved police presence especially on weekends and at night.

In his response, the IGP acknowleged the gatekeeping role of the media in Ghana and assured that the Police is ever ready to collaborate with the media to deliver quality policing services to Ghanaians as the Ghana Service Police strives to become the best institution in the country and a reference point for the rest of Africa and beyond.

Officers who accompanied the IGP include COP/Mr. Paul Manly Awini, Director-General/NPD; COP/Ernest Kwabena Owusu, Director-General/Research and Planning, DCOP/ Faustina Andoh Kwofie, Director-General/CID; DCOP/ Mr. Okyere-Darko Essuman, Director-General Technical (Ag.); and the Accra Regional Police Commander, COP/Dr. Saibu Pabi Gariba.
