The composition of the ten (10) signatories of constituency party members of good standing that support Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s nomination simply and basically reflects how an array of powerful and influential political stars are constantly gravitating towards the “First Class Vice President”.
Led by the indefatigable Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, representing the Bosomtwe Constituency, and supported by Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Suame, Nana Nkansah-Boadu Ayeboafo and Ama Ampomah Addo-Kufuor, all members of the National Council, Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku, Member of Parliament For Offinso South, Victoria Nyarko Kusi, the Second Vice Chairperson of the NPP in the Ashanti Region and Daniel Kwasi Adusei, a founding father of the party.
The rest are Kwame Antwi, the Constituency Chairman of Nsuta-Kwamang-Beposo, George Kofi Adjei, popularly known as Geokad, the Constituency Chairman for Nhyiaeso, and Charles Dickson Ampofo, the Chairman for Coordinators.
The endorsement of these great personalities which is squarely inspired by the Vice President’s overwhelming popularity and support among the grassroots members of the party in the Ashanti Region and beyond, is an indication of the enormous confidence the rank and file of the party have in him. His Excellency Dr. Bawumia has been at the forefront spearheading and championing almost all the initiatives of the government, and for that matter, doesn’t make his huge popularity surprising.
From these across-board endorsements in the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the party, and widespread defections and cross-carpeting to the Bawumia team, one can clearly see, and boldly say that, the Vice President comfortably outshines the other Presidential aspirants.
It is therefore not a surprise that, he is regarded the presumptive flagbearer of the NPP, even by our opponents, the NDC, to the point that he has constantly been the victim of all attacks from the opposition. The NPP is, however, solidly united behind him ahead of the 2024 elections.
