Retired Superintendent of Police, Peter Lanchene Toobu says the police can arrest the Galamsey gang leader, Kwame Ato Asare if only they strategically planned well.
He admitted the notorious gang leader will be hard to find but with the help of a trained ex-convict, he can be captured easily.
Peter Lanchene Toobu who is also a member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency in the Upper West region told NEAT FM’s morning show urged the police to be ‘smart’ in their keen quest to arrest Kwame Ato Asare.
“Get an ex-convict and convert him to help you arrest him [Kwame Ato Asare].” He told host McJerry Osei Agyeman
But was quick to add that “The police must also be careful about such a person.”
Kwame Ato Asare together with four other friends went viral after he was seen exchanging words with some police officers who later knelt to apologise to him.
Although it is unclear what transpired, Kwame and his gang reportedly seized the magazine of a Service rifle together with some mobile phones belonging to the Police officers on March 9, 2023.
After the matter was reported by the Axim Divisional Police patrol, four suspects were arrested.
However, Kwame Ato Asare, the main suspect, is on the run.
