said in a statement
Kejetia Market in Kumasi caught fire on Wednesday (15 March 2023), destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
Eyewitnesses said most of the big stores and stalls at the busy central market in the Ashanti regional capital had been consumed by the raging fire.
Officials are yet to establish the cause of the fire. Traders who witnessed the incident stood helpless and some wailed as their goods were consumed by the fire.
However, Chairman Wontumi said this incident is a compelling reminder of the need for both the authorities and the traders to cooperate in taking precautions against and finding a lasting solution to, these fire outbreaks.
He assured affected traders that the NPP will stand with them during this difficult period, and help them get back to their businesses.
