The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Bernard Antwi - Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) is deeply saddened by the news of the fire outbreak at the Kejetia Market with its attendant loss of goods and property.

“He is deeply worried by the recurrent incident of fire outbreaks in that section of the Central Business District, especially when the redeveloped market has to inherit this menace, and as the leader of the governing party in the region, he will ensure that the government looks into how we can nip it in the bud.” His political assistant, Nana Poku Frefre

said in a statement

Kejetia Market in Kumasi caught fire on Wednesday (15 March 2023), destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Eyewitnesses said most of the big stores and stalls at the busy central market in the Ashanti regional capital had been consumed by the raging fire.

Officials are yet to establish the cause of the fire. Traders who witnessed the incident stood helpless and some wailed as their goods were consumed by the fire.

However, Chairman Wontumi said this incident is a compelling reminder of the need for both the authorities and the traders to cooperate in taking precautions against and finding a lasting solution to, these fire outbreaks.

He assured affected traders that the NPP will stand with them during this difficult period, and help them get back to their businesses.
