Military and police officers have been deployed to the Volta Region, with most of them in the Ho Municipality as the region gears up to host the 66th Independence Day celebration of Ghana.
They patrol the streets of the capital day and night, especially the new stadium which is the venue for the Independence Day celebration.
More police checkpoints have been created on major roads throughout the region including the Ho-Aflao highway, Ho-Sogakope road and the Eastern corridor road from Tema to Ho.
Residents who spoke to Asaase News say increasing security presence in the capital before the anniversary is in order.
“At least, criminals will have no way to operate in these few days,” said Mensah Newton, a resident of 66 Artillery Regiment, New Town.
Twenty-two contingents including cadet corps from second-cycle institutions in the region will be at the parade.
The local economy in the Ho Municipality is said to be making good gains ahead of the celebration, which falls on 6 March 2023.
